چکیده

The proportion of mutants in a growing culture of organisms will depend upon (a) the rate at which the wild cells produce them (with or without growth), (b) the back mutation rate, and (c) the growth rates of the wild and mutant cells. If the mutation rate without growth and the back mutation rate are neglected, the growth of a mutant is expressed by See PDF for Equation and the ratio of the mutant to wild by See PDF for Equation in which lambda = mutation frequency rate constant, "mutation rate," A = growth rate constant of wild cells W, B = growth rate constant of mutant cells M. If the term [B - (1 - 2lambda)A] is positive, the proportion of mutants increases continuously. If it is negative, the proportion of mutants reaches a constant value See PDF for Equation If mutation is assumed to occur without growth at the rate C, then the corresponding equations are (11), (12), and (14). See PDF for Equation If (B + C - A) is negative and t = infinity, See PDF for Equation If C << A, See PDF for Equation

Study of Mutations in the DNA gyrase gyrA Gene of Escherichia coli

Quinolones are a large and widely consumed class of synthetic drugs. Expanded-spectrum quinolones, like ciprofloxacin are highly effective against Gram-negative bacteria, especially Escherichia coli. In E. coli the major target for quinolones is DNA gyrase. This enzyme is composed of two subunits, GyrA and GyrB encoding by gyrA and gyrB, respectively. Mutations in either of these genes cause qu...

Virulence Function of Pectobacterium atrosepticum Secretion System Mutants on Evaluation of Some Solanum tuberosum Resistance Genes

Background: P. atrosepticum is a commercially important pathogen. It causes blackleg in the field and soft rot of tubers after the harvest. This effect is due to secretion of depolymerases and other virulence factors by several mechanisms including T3SS Objectives: The effect of bacterial T3SS on Solanum tuberosum (S. tuberosum) varieties and its re...

Expression of tolC and organic solvent tolerance of Escherichia coli ciprofloxacin resistant mutants

AcrAB-TolC is a major efflux pump in Escherichia coli. It was reported that tolC is overexpressed and involves in improving the organic solvent tolerance level in Escherichia coli marR mutants that are resistant to several antibiotics, such as ciprofloxacin. Low and intermediate levels resistance did not improve organic solvent tolerance. Thus, in this descriptive-experimental study it was deci...

The involvement of mutation in the serine 83 of quinolone resistant determining regions of the GyrA Gene in resistance to ciprofloxacin in Escherichia coli .

Appearance of bacteria resistant to antibacterial agents puts physicians in trouble and threatens the health of the world. The rapid development of bacterial resistance in Escherichia coli to ciprofloxacin makes difficult the treatment of infectious diseases. So, detection of the locations of possible mutations in gyrase A gene ( gyrA ) in these mutants is very important to determine the mech...

Replication Characteristics of Herpes Simplex Virus Type-1 (HSV-1) Recombinants in 3 Types of Tissue Cultures

A complication in the analysis of the role of ICP34.5 gene in the herpes simplex virus type-1 (HSV-1) lifecycle is the presence of overlapping antisense gene, open reading frame P (ORF P), which is also deleted in HSV-1 ICP34.5 negative mutants. A HSV-1 wild type strain (17+) ICP34.5/ORF P deletion mutant (1716) is totally avirulent in animal models and impaired in a number of in vitro function...
